Field studies conducted by this department are concentrated on the homogenous and delimited region of Kujavia, which is regarded as a very prospective area for complex studies of prehistory of Lowland Poland. Attention is focused on chronologically broad processes from middle Stone Age to the beginning of the Middle Ages. The main objective of this project is thorough  interdisciplinary analysis of regional society. This is regarded as a methodological alternative to the dominant practice of so-called interregional archaeology. These studies have brought about a set of unique findings and discoveries which considerably modified the prehistory of the Polish lands. It is worth mentioning the following: the recognition of the Kujavia enclave of Danubian early Bronze Age civilization, the reconstruction of the structure of the amber route, the genesis of the amber and glass manufactures, as well as, the discovery of numerous sacred sites.
