BIOGRAPHY

I was born in Piła (Greater Poland) in 1988. I graduated from high school in 2007 and started the same year the B.A. studies in archaeology at the Institute of Prehistory of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.My bachelor’s thesis  was entitled “Geomorfologia stanowiska ze starszej epoki brązu w Smoszewie (pow.Krotoszyn, woj. wielkopolskie)” and finalized under supervision of Prof. Janusz Czebreszuk in 2010. After that I have started the master studies in archaeology and the post-graduate studies of geology at the Faculty of Geographical and Geological Sciences of AMU Poznań. In the mean time I have also participated in the ERASMUS project by studying during the winter semester of 2011/2012 at the Institute fur Ur- und Fruhgeschichte of Kiel University. In 2012 I finalized the geological studies by thesis “Geomorfologia późnoneolitycznego stanowiska archeologicznego w Obłaczkowie (gm. Września, woj. wielkopolskie)”, written under the supervision of Prof. Wojciech Stankowski.Few months later I have also finished the master studies in archaeology by defending the work en. “Geographical Information System implementation in the Anthemountas Valley Archeological Project researches. Visualization and analysis of delimited study area” reviewed by Prof. S. Andreou from the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki.

After finishing the master studies I have began the PhD studies in the Institute of Prehistory of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań in 2013. In the same year I also started the post-graduate studies in geoinformation at the Faculty of Geographical and Geological Sciences AMU Poznań. The latter were completed a year after by the work promoted by Prof. Z. Zwoliński and Prof. A. Stach. During the doctoral studies I was granted by the National Science Centre Poland the financial support for the research project en. “Landscapes of prehistoric settlement in the Anthemous Valley (Central Macedonia, Greece) in the light of archaeological and palaeogeographical data.” The PhD thesis under the same title was finalized in 2017 and of which the reviewers were Prof. S. Andreou and Prof. I. Hildebrandt-Radke.

After a short period of my work in the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of Polish Academy of Sciences, in 2019 I was hired by the Faculty of Archaeology of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, where I am employed till this day. I am also the State Secretary of the Polish Archaeological Institute at Athens. At the end of 2019 I have received the financing of my project by the National Science Centre Poland entitled: Living by the lake: a history of human - environment relations on the basis of geoarchaeological study of Bruszczewo microregion (Central Poland)”.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

My main scientific interest is geoarchaeology in its geomorphological and palaeogeographical aspects. I cooperate in this subject with specialists from various sciences, trying to reconstruct the environment of the past societies in local and regional scales. I specialize mostly in the fluvial environments such as river valleys, estuaries and lakelands.

Spatially my research concern the Central-eastern and Southern-eastern Europe. In terms of chronology my interests span the periods between the Neolithic and Medieval (and further). However, most of my works were associated with the Neolithic and Bronze Age. Vast part of my research activity comprise the use of various methods including drillings – especially those of mechanical character (the vibra-coring). I interest also in technical aspects of drillings and their development for archaeological purposes.

In the geoarchaeological theme I also specialize in archaeological magnetometry – both in terms of prospecting and interpreting the results. I have a considerable experience in this procedures, derived from numerous surveys conducted in Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Hungary and Greece. In result of dozens of prospections conducted in forests I am interested in application, interpretation and problematics of applying the magnetometrcis survey in woodlands. Recently in this context I also began to be interested in tracing the IInd WW fortifications in North-western Poland.

My scientific interests also span the area of geoarchaeology related to the spatial analyses. I broadly use the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) not only to provide the visualization of data but also to perform geostatistical research and landform analysis in terms of morphometry.
